Tax-free childcare, nursery government funding, 30 hours free, it can all be quite puzzling. So, here’s our step by step guide to finding out what funding your family is entitled to and how to find out if you’re eligible.
Government Tax-Free Childcare
The tax-free childcare scheme allows working families including self-employed parents in the UK to receive up to £500 every 3 months (£2,000 a year) for each child. In other words, the government will pay £2 for every £8 you pay your childcare provider. This is paid via a childcare account that you can set up online. Parents can get both Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours free childcare, depending on eligibility.
This only applies to childcare providers that are signed up to the scheme, so make sure you check with your provider first.
30 Hour Childcare Funding
At Nurseries by Gymfinity Kids, we know that covering the cost of childcare isn’t always easy. So, we’re pleased to be able to offer 30 hours of nursery funding from 3 years old, on a stretched basis. The number of daycare sessions will affect the amount of funding available to claim.
If your child is entitled to 30 hours of funded childcare, you must have applied for your code and discussed your requirements with our Nursery Manager ahead of your settling in sessions.
Check your eligibility for 30 hours of funding.
15 hours free childcare
All parents in England with children aged 3 and 4-years are eligible to receive up to 570 free hours per year. Usually, this is taken as 15 hours per week for 38 weeks of the year, however, this can be flexible.
Contact your childcare provider or local council to find out more.
Please note parents must wait until the term after their child’s 3rd birthday to qualify for 15 and 30-hour funding.
What nursery funding am I entitled to?
Most nursery funding depends on your eligibility, this comes down to a number of factors such as:
- your employment status
- how much you earn
- your child’s age and circumstances
- your nationality
- your partner’s income and employment status
- whether or not you are married, in a civil partnership or live together
- other factors
