Being a parent can sometimes feel like you have zero time left over for exercise after juggling family life. Not only that but convincing your kids to “go outside and play” can turn into a modern-day battle, between you and their electronic devices.

A good tactic is to enrol them in an after school activity where they can socialise with friends and have fun learning new skills. At Gymfinity Kids, not only do we have exciting gymnastics classes for kids,  ninja sessions, and holiday camps, but we also have fantastic adult gymnastics classes too.

Another way to get your family active is to try exercising together, this can be a great way to spend some quality time and improve fitness whilst encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

We’ve created a simple family-friendly workout session, you can practice at home with your kids today.

Family Friendly Exercises:

1. Planking

Place your elbows on the floor and rise up on the tips of your toes, keeping your back straight and your abs tight in a line. Hold that position as long as you can, 30 seconds is pretty good if you and your kids can hold it that long.

2. Mountain Climbers

Start in a push-up position, then alternate bringing one foot at a time forward toward your armpit and then extend it back out. To kids, this almost looks like Spiderman.

3. Push-ups

Keep your abs tight and your back straight, you can do this with a straight or bent knee. For Kids, start by doing incline push-ups – begin with a wall and work their way down to a chair or step as they become stronger.

4. Curl-ups

When it comes to ab workouts for kids, crunches are absolutely awesome. Crunches are similar to sit-ups, but instead of lifting your entire back off the floor, just lift your upper back. Try doing these with a swiss ball for 20 seconds or until you get tired.

5. Lunges

Lunges are great for kids improving balance and strengthen legs. Take a step forward with one leg and lower your hips until both knees are bent at about 90-degree angles. Keep the weight in your heels and push back to your starting position.
