The summer holidays are a great time for children to have a break and reboot after a hard year at school. However, as well as lazing in the sun, playing computer games or hanging out with friends, it’s important that your kids stay active during their summer break too.

So here are some expert tips to help you along the way:

1) Use the TV to your advantage.

We often battle our kids over being glued to the TV during the holidays. But why not use this to our advantage? Following the World Cup many have witnessed our country being successful in sport. Use this to inspire youngsters to get out and sign up to sports at grassroots level.

Gymfinity Kids Product Director, Ruth Chapman, says: “Gymnastics is the foundation of all sports, it develops strength, co -ordination, speed, flexibility and balance. The flexibility required to do the splits is the same type of flexibility a footballer might use to save a goal. Or the co-ordination a gymnast learns on a balance beam is the type of skills a netballer will need on a court.”

2) Turn it into a social experience.

Enrol your child in a class over the summer as they are far more likely to keep fit if they have friends taking part too. Gymfinity Kids runs active, fun and rewarding holiday camps for children aged 5-14 years. Not just for budding gymnasts and ninjas, we’ll also be running lots of other exciting activities with different themes. Find out more about our holiday camps here.

3) Try something different.

We all know how tedious exercise can be at times and this is no different for our children. Organised sports are not for everyone, so try a fun alternative. A popular choice this summer are Ninja classes, a combination of parkour, free running and martial arts. It’s not a traditional sport, but it keeps them active and engaged. Find out more about Ninja lessons here.
